Feb 7 1974 – Feb 10 2006
We just recently hit the 5th year death anniversary of Slum Village's incredible James Yancey aka J Dilla (the illest!!) who passed away from Lupus in '06 at 32 years old (only 3 days after his birthday.) With names like Tribe, De la soul, Common, The Pharcyde, Erykah Badu & more under his clientele, there ain't no doubt that you aint ever stumbled upon one of his audible orgasmic beats. Plus if you ever wondered whos behind my blog's main track now you know...
In Dilla's music, you get the craziest, most soul southin', old school sampling, fucking-wanting-to make-love-to-his-music feeling that you need to feel to get it. I don't even know what I said there, but this guy was/is a true genius. Always committed, isolating himself 20 hours+ a day in his Detroit Basement diggin through mad crates and samplin vinyls, (and even while sick he was still makin music from his hospital bed) aint no doubt about the passion & talents for this gifted musician. I got Jay Dee to thank for makin' my days n nights so hmm what's that word... alive + Dilla's joints are always the best choice to free your minds too.
Never mournin the death of a true talent but celebratin and forever carryin his creative legacy with me. If you aint ever heard a Dilla you def aint a hip hop head. But that's okay cuz now you get to grab your headphones, seclude yourself, close your eyes and get carried away mothafuckaaah...
